Have you seen improvement in his mobility since starting the treatment?
"Yes! He's more playful and moves around more with ease. Before, he would play with toys that didn't require a lot of movement but now we see him engaging with toys that require more body movement like a wand toy or a ball. He also now engages in play like chase and wrestling with our youngest cat."
How did the process go, from the initial treatment recommendations to scheduling follow ups?
"Taco sees a behaviorist for anxiety and reactiveness. She felt like some of Taco's reactiveness was coming from pain. After running x-rays we learned he has arthritis. He started an oral medication for arthritis that helped, but wasn't taking away the pain completely. Once Solensia went on the market our behaviorist recommended it. We started it just a few months after it was released. The first visit was quick and we scheduled the follow up before we left. We were told that it may take a couple months to see the benefits, but Taco was seeing the benefits within the first week."
How has Solensia treatment improved his lifestyle?
"Solensia has been life changing for Taco and our entire home. He's a completely different cat now. When he started seeing a behaviorist it was for anxiety but also his reactiveness toward one of our other cats and me. Taco scratched and bit me several times out of nowhere. At one point his reactiveness toward our other cat and me was so bad that we unfortunately had to have a tough discussion about possibly rehoming him to live with my parents because it was affecting his and our quality of life so much. We're so glad that we made the decision to keep trying because now that he's mostly pain free he's such a lovely cat. I can now brush him and cuddle him. 2 years ago that never seemed possible."
Is there anything you'd like to add for pet parents considering this treatment?
"The idea of bringing your pet to the vet every month for an injection can seem daunting at first, but it just becomes routine after the first few visits. The visits are quick and worth it for the relief your pet gets! We're usually in and out in under 15 minutes. If you have pet insurance, they may be able to cover the pain management treatment to alleviate some of the cost."
