2019 Year In Review

Greetings BLVD Friends and Clients,

Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe 2019 capped off 5 years in business for Boulevard Veterinary! Here are a few highlights for the year:

New Veterinarians

Dr. Ashley Peters became our 6th veterinarian, beginning in May of last year. She is an Illinois native and alumnus, obtaining her DVM from the University of Illinois. Dr. Peters has a very gentle and caring approach to treating animals that clients find very reassuring. We are very happy to have her on board. You can also find her at Logan Square.

Dr. Andrew Bean joined us in April as our 5th full time veterinarian. Dr. Bean hails from Erie, Pennsylvania and got his degree at Ohio State University. Dr. Bean works primarily out of our Logan Square location. His calm confidence, outgoing personality and common sense approach has been a hit with clients and staff.

Overall we added 11 new jobs in 2019!

New Baby

  • Kelly and I welcomed a baby boy, Weston, in August--our first. Becoming a father has taught me so much about patience, nurturing, and the importance of trust in health care. Now to teach Weston his first word: “Vet-er-in-ar-i-an”...

New Equipment

  • We now have Ultrasonography at both locations. We will be spending a lot of time training on ultrasound in 2020 and are excited to start offering abdominal ultrasounds as an added imaging option. Ultrasound is a valuable add-on to x-rays in cases of chronic vomiting, obstruction, concerns about fluid accumulation, bladder imaging and sample collection to name a few.

  • Urine Sediment analyzers are also at both locations. These machines allow us to perform full laboratory urine testing on-site with immediate results. This is especially useful for cases where an answer is needed sooner rather than later.

Rescue Partner Events

In keeping with our Core Value of Dedication to Community, this year we participated in numerous animal rescue organization events for ALIVE Rescue and Live Like Roo. Below are the highlights!

  • February -  ALIVE Rescue’s Shelter Shiver

  • March - Blanket Making party for Live Like Roo

  • April - ALIVE Rescue’s Pet Bowl

  • May - Live Like Roo’s Taco Eating Contest

  • June - Live Like Roo Dog Prom

  • December - Giving Tree for Live Like Roo at River North and Alive Rescue  at Logan Square

2020 will see the formation of a dedicated BLVD Rescue Committee co-chaired by staff members Colleen and Ann. Look for even more involvement by BLVD staff in these life-saving events!

5 Year Milestones

On January 5th, 2015 we opened our doors at 2740 W. Armitage for the first time, turned our phones on and….nothing happened. There were no patients for the first 5 days! We didn’t see more than one pet per day for the following week. Sometimes none. We finished the month with 38 patients.

Fast forward through 5 years of blood, sweat and anal glands and now BLVD Vet provides care for over 10,000 patients, seeing 1,200 on a monthly basis. We are truly grateful for the support of our Logan Square and River North communities. You have made our existence and growth possible.  BLVD Vet is one of the few remaining local, independent and 100% veterinarian owned Chicago veterinary practices. That allows us to make decisions that are best for our patients, not our investors. We are also deeply committed to the professional success of our over 30 full time employees.

Wishing you and your pets a happy, healthy 2020!
