New Graduate Mentorship

We use a tailored, 4 phase training program to start your veterinary career at BLVD Vet with confidence! All graduates will have a minimum 3 months of structured mentorship and up to 6 months of built in surgical mentorship.

Phase 1: Month 1

You'll be scheduled to work under the direct supervision of your mentor for 3 appointment shifts and 1 surgery shift per week.

Week 1:

  • Get to know our team and protocols as you shadow your mentor!

Week 2-3:

  • If you haven’t already, you'll start taking the lead on a 5-7 appointments each day.

  • We'll help you build up to handling an appointment every hour.

  • Continue to get comfortable in surgery and follow up care.

Week 4:

  • Get ready to shine by taking on more appointments (around 1 per hour).

Phase 2: Month 2

You'll be scheduled to work along side your mentor for 2-3 appointment shifts and under their direct supervision for 1-2 procedure shifts per week.

Week 1-2:

  • Continue to get acclimated to 7-9 appointments per appointment shift.

  • Continue to gain experience with surgeries and dentistry under the guidance of your mentor.

Week 3-4:

  • We’ll work with you to increase your appointment efficiency and appointments will be scheduled every 30 to 45 minutes depending on the case.

  • We’ll encourage you to to take the lead on all procedures now but your mentor will remain by your side to help!

Phase 3: Month 3

You'll be scheduled to work along side your mentor for 2-3 appointment shifts and under their direct supervision for 1-2 procedure shifts per week.

  • Time to get into the near normal rhythm of our stagger appointment scheduling! You’ll be paired with 2 Veterinary Technicians and a Veterinary Assistants to see 13-14 appointments per day. Don’t worry, we’ll still have a couple hold blocks in case you need them.

  • Continue to gain confidence and efficiency in procedures with your mentor.

Phase 4: Months 4-6

You’ll be scheduled as the fully capable appointment veterinarian you now are! Don’t worry though, we can still work more on your procedure confidence as needed.

  • You will be fully prepared to manage our normal stagger appointment schedule at the start of month 4!

  • When it comes to procedures, we know you may not be fully prepared to fly solo so we will continue to schedule you for 1 procedure per week with your mentor. If after 6 months you’re still struggling, we can discuss a plan to provide additional training days. We want you to succeed in your goals!
