Procedure Instructions
For Intact Female Dogs: Please be on the lookout for signs that your dog is going into heat (estrus). During a heat cycle and for a few weeks after it ends, dogs are at an increased risk of surgical complications, due to increased blood flow to the organ system. As a result, we recommend waiting to spay until at least 6-8 weeks after a heat cycle ends. Clinical signs of a heat cycle include bloody discharge from the vulva, swelling of the vulva, increased licking of vulva, and sometimes behavioral or appetite changes. If seen prior to your dog's spay, please call immediately to let us know so we can guide you on next steps.
